ASB Classic Qualifying Schedule Looks Good

Qualifying for the ASB Classic has a distinctly French flavour for the hometown contingent with the two Kiwi players both having drawn French players in the first round of play starting today.

Canterbury’s Ellen Barry faces Stephannie Cohen-Aloro while Auckland’s Kairangi Vano takes on Severine Bremond.

The top seed in qualifying is Germany’s Kristina Barrois who has a current WTA ranking of 78 and a match against Australia’s Sophie Ferguson. Second seed and world No79 Anastasija Sevastova(Latvia) plays Canadian Rebecca Marina.

Other notable matches include two-time former champ Eleni Daniilidou of Greece playing Romanian Edina Gallovits, a quarterfinalist at the event last year.

While 2008 tournament semifinalist, Tamira Paszek stars her comeback from a year of injuries with a clash against American Carly Gullickson.

Qualifying starts at 9.30am at the ASB Tennis Centre with free admission.
