Rezai through, Medina gone at the end of the first day of play.
Fan favourite and tournament seventh seed Aravane Rezai finished off the first day of play at the 2010 ASB Classic with a straight set victory over countrywoman Julie Coin 6-4 6-3, despite a short break for a power outage in the final game of the match.
Rezai, a semifinalist in 2009 and finalist the previous year was one of the three winning seeds to make the second round of play. The only seed not to progress was No8 Anabel Medina Garrigues who was defeated by Slovak, Magdalena Rybarikova 6-2 6-3.
