Favourite Up First

Date: 5 January 2010

Singles favourite Flavia Pennetta faces Spaniard Suarez Navarro first up on centre court as the 2010 ASB Classic enters its third day, 11am Wednesday.

Neither player was pressed in winning their opening rounds against American Jill Craybas and Romanian qualifer Edina Gallovits respectively.

But their clash promises to be more intriguing with Suarez Navarro enjoying bragging rights over her higher ranked opponent by virtue of a victory on clay at the 2008 French Open.

Pennetta''''s Federation Cup team-mate Francesca Schiavone, seeded fourth, will follow her on centre court for the second KIA Motors Singles match of the day, taking on Indian Sania Mirza.

The latter had to battle back from a set down for her first-round victory over Swiss Stefanie Voegele and has not beaten Schiavone in three previous encounters, the most recent in the semifinals at Osaka last year.

Third-seeded wildcard Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium faces Romanian Ioana Raluca Olaru for the first time in the second match on Court Four.
