Date: 7 January 2010

Israeli Shahar Peer continues to defy the protestors by extending her stay at the ASB Classic, defeating Russian Maria Kirilenko 6-0 3-6 6-1 to become the first KIA Motors singles semifinalist.

She took just 23 minutes to breeze through the first set, but found Kirilenko a completely different proposition in the second and was forced to a third before emerging victorious.

She now awaits the winner of the next match on centre court - Japanese veteran Kimiko Date Krumm v Belgian third seed Yanina Wickmayer.
