South African Natalie Grandin and American Laura Granville became the 2010 ASB Classic's first finalists after a nail-biting finish to their doubles semi on Thursday night.
The pair eventually overcame Czechs Vladimira Uhlirova and Renata Voracova 6-2 3-6 10-8 in 1h 24m, but had to come from behind in a deciding "super set" where serving proved a liability to both teams.
The Czechs actually managed 78% first-serve accuracy down the stretch, but it did them little good as the majority of points (11/18) went against service when it mattered.
Ultimately, the victors rallied from 3-6 down to take out the super set and now await the winners of tomorrow''s second KIA Motors Doubles semifinal between the world''s No1 pair of Cara Black (Zimbabwe)/Liezel Huber (USA) and Italians Flavia Pennetta and Francesca Schiavone.
