Zvonareva withdraws from ASB Classic

Former world no.2 Vera Zvonareva has had to withdraw from the ASB Classic due to injury.

The Russian, who was given a wildcard to next year’s Auckland tournament, has withdrawn from both the ASB Classic and the Australian Open because of ongoing problems with a shoulder injury.

ASB Classic Tournament Director Karl Budge is naturally disappointed that a class player such as Zvonareva has had to withdraw but he is still upbeat about the quality field that is coming to Auckland.

“We have six top 30 players gracing our courts in just over a week’s time headlined by world no. 4 Agnieszka Radwanska who is in world-beating form.”

“We also have three former champions competing with 2003 and 2004 winner Elena Daniilidou given a wildcard yesterday.”

The 2013 ASB Classic runs from 31 December this year to 5 January 2013 and tickets are on sale from Ticketek. All centre court matches for the ASB Classic will be screened live on SKY TV from the start of play at midday.
