The 23-year-old German had a pretty average season until she hit the US in August where she reached the semifinals in Dallas and went on to her first Grand Slam semifinal at the US Open.

On her way to the semifinal, Anglique Kerber beat Agnieszka Radwanska and Flavia Pennetta before losing to eventual winner Sam Stosur. Afterwards her ranking jumped from 92 to 34.

The left-hander finished the year with her highest season-ending ranking of 32.
