Our 2011 champ is back to defend her title a year after a stunning win which saw her defeat Maria Sharapova, Julia Goerges and Yanina Wickmayer in succession to win her second career title.

After her Auckland win, she was upended in the first round of the Australian Open, losing to No. 26 seed Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez of Spain. She reached the quarterfinals in Acapulco and Monterrey but a knee injury slowed her US hardcourt season tho she did make her top 50 debut on April 4.

During the clay season Greta reached the quarterfinal stage at both Fes and Rome. A right knee injury hampered her during the grass season as she was unable to play Wimbledon and pulled out of three tournaments in July.

Her season ended with a first round loss at the US Open to American Vania King but she ended the year ranked #66, a career best season ending ranking.
