A former top 5 player, Jelena Dokic had her best career results in the early 2000s, when she reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon in 1999 (knocking out then #1 Martina Hingis in the first round) and bettered that with a semifinal run in 2000. She also reached the medal stages of the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Jelena won her sixth WTA title in 2011 at Kuala Lumpur, beating Francesca Schiavone en route to the final, where she beat Czech Lucie Safarova for the win. She was runner-up on the grass in 's-Hertogenbosch, beating No. 4 seed Flavia Pennetta on her way to the final.

Injuries slowed the second half of Jelena's season, as she was forced to withdraw from Budapest, Bad Gastein and Baku with a hamstring injury, and a right shoulder injury ended her season following a loss to No. 11 seed Jelena Jankovic in the first round of the US Open.

Dokic is one of the few women on the WTA tour who have won tournaments all surfaces: hard, clay, grass and carpet.
