Johanna's best results of 2011 were a runner-up finish in the Swedish Open in Bastad and a semifinal run at the 2011 Abierto Mexicano Telcel in Acapulco. She also reached the quarterfinals in Dallas, defeating No. 6 seed Sharar Peer of Israel on her way.

Her best wins of the season were a win over Li Na in Miami and Ana Ivanovic in the first round of the French Open.

She and German player Jasmin Wöhr captured the doubles title at the Copenhagen event.
