A popular visitor to the ASB Classic, Julia Goerges built on her 2011 breakthrough year with another strong showing in 2012. She reached the fourth round of the Australian Open and played in two finals without adding to her tally of two tournament victories
In February she made the Dubai final where she lost to Agnieszka Radwanska. Goerges reached the third round at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon and competed in her first Olympics.
The German collected an impressive win over Sam Stosur in Beijing before going on to reach the final in Linz, where she fell to world no. 1 Victoria Azarenka.
Known for her powerful serve and forehand, Goerges ended the year in the top 20 for the second year in a row.
