Steve Johnson has had his best year yet, winning his first ATP title in Nottingham and dropping to a career high 21 in the world. The ranking put him briefly at US number one. The American was a singles quarterfinalist and bronze medalist in the men's doubles with Jack Sock in the Rio Olympics. He reached his first fourth round of a Grand Slam at Wimbledon this year beating Grigor Dimitrov. The American played the Auckland tournament in 2014, 2015 and 2016. In 2014 he made his way through qualifying before beating former Australian Open runner up Marcos Baghdatis and number four seed Kevin Anderson to reach his second quarterfinals on the ATP tour. He also made the quarterfinals in Auckland in 2015. Johnson began playing tennis at the age of two and entered his first tournament at just five years of age.
