In what has been described as a "dream final", two former world number ones and Grand Slam champions, Ana Ivanovic and Venus Williams, will go head to head in today's 2014 ASB Classic Singles Final.

Williams advanced to the final unexpectedly early yesterday after her opponent, fellow American, Jamie Hampton, withdrew from the tournament due to injury- meaning Venus comes into finals day with a full day's rest.

Ivanovic defeated her doubles partner and close friend, Kirsten Flipkens, in yesterday's semi-final, in straight sets-  6-0, 7-6 (3).

"It's a great match up- I think there are so many good players this week, to get to the finals is a great achievement for me", says Ivanovic.

"We have had tough matches in the past, and Venus has been showing good form this week too, we all know what's she's capable of doing. I really look forward to that final challenge."

Although Ivanovic has been in great form during the tournament, out of their nine previous meetings, Williams has won eight. However, Ivanovic currently sits in the Top 20, while Williams is ranked 47 in the world due to an extended off-season.

This will be their first match since Miami in 2012 where Williams was forced to go to three sets to take the win the round of 16.
