Extra day of play for 2019 ASB Classic

As well as the announcement of the return of 7-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams for the 2019 tournament, ASB Classic organisers have also confirmed an extra day of play in the 2019 schedule.

The ASB Classic Women’s week schedule has been extended to seven days with the main draw starting on Monday 31 December and running through until Sunday 6 January. This extension of the schedule has allowed for the introduction of twilight sessions on the first two days of play (Monday 31 December and Tuesday 1 January), two sessions on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and the Women’s Finals scheduled for Sunday 6 January.

The Men’s week will follow straight afterwards with an unchanged schedule, starting on Monday 7 January and finishing with Men’s Finals Day scheduled for Saturday 12 January.

ASB Classic Tournament Director Karl Budge said he is excited about the change in schedule and giving fans improved access to the on court action.

“I think this is great for fans. Ultimately our best content will now be played at the more desirable times. If weather permits we will have blockbuster Friday night quarter finals, Saturday night semi’s and a Sunday night final in the Women’s week” said Budge.

With a majority of sessions selling out each year, fans are encouraged to register their interest at asbclassic.co.nz and secure their access to the exclusive ticket pre-sale window which opens Friday 7 September. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 9am, Wednesday 19 September.

Tickets will be available for purchase through Ticketek either online via ticketek.co.nz, over the phone on (0800 842 538) or in person at one of the agencies listed on the Ticketek website. Fans are encouraged to only purchase tickets via Ticketek and not through other online ticket resellers as they may not be valid and entry into the venue may be refused.

Further player signings will be revealed in the coming weeks with the full men’s and women’s line-up to be confirmed late November.
