Former Champion receives wildcard
2017 ASB Classic champion Lauren Davis has been given the final wildcard for the main draw.
The petit American is thrilled to get direct entry into the ASB Classic and another opportunity to set herself up for the first grand slam of the year.
“There’s no better way to start off 2019 than playing in the main draw of one of my favourite tournaments”.
The ASB Classic is Davis’ sole WTA title and catapulted the American to her career high ranking of 27 that same year. The 25-year old hasn’t been able to rediscover that same form in the last two seasons but is hoping 2019 will be different.
“My focus this year is to enjoy competing and to play as freely as possible with the hopes of reaching a new career high”.
Matches will start at 10am tomorrow with gates opening at 9am. Ground passes for qualifying are on sale at the venue for $15 on the day, giving spectators world class tennis for superior pricing. Tickets to all main draw sessions of the ASB Classic, which runs from 31 December to 12 January, are available from Ticketek.co.nz
