Heineken Open Tournament Preview
The Heineken Open is pleased to welcome six Top 30 players to Auckland; led by four-time Heineken Open champion and world number three, David Ferrer, who returns to Auckland for the ninth year in a row and 10thoverall. Last year the Spaniard joined Roy Emerson as the only four-time titlists in Auckland history, when he beat Philipp Kohlschreiber. Ferrer is joined by former champions John Isner (2010) and Kohlschreiber (2008) in the field, as well as sixth seed, Benoit Paire.
Paire arrives in Auckland off the back of the Chennai Open where he reached the quarter finals. 2013 has seen the Frenchman improve his year-end ranking for the sixth year in a row, finishing in the Top 30 with a personal-best 32-match. He also reached his second career ATP World Tour final in Montpellier.
Kohlschreiber also finished 2013 in the Top 30, for the fourth time in six years. The German number two reached three finals last year, including the 2013 Heineken Open where he lost to David Ferrer.
In other pairings, wild card Jack Sock will take on France’s Adrian Mannarino, NZ hopeful Rubin Statham will play a qualifier.
