Kiwi kids the winners of 2019 ASB Classic

With record numbers through the gate and new champions crowned for 2019, the ASB Classic has been delivering success both on and off the court, and one of the biggest recipients of this was 2019 ASB Classic Community Partner Eat My Lunch.

Through a number of initiatives over the two weeks of action, tennis fans have helped donate over 6,000 lunches to Kiwi kids in need throughout New Zealand.  Through meals gifted at food and beverage outlets around the venue, two days of crowd favourite activation ‘Lobbo’ and support from major sponsor ASB, the final tally came to 6,107 lunches gifted.

ASB Classic Tournament Director Karl Budge said he was pleased to be able to support Kiwi kids in need.

‘The response from ASB Classic fans in supporting Kiwi kids has been fantastic, and I’m proud of how we’ve been able to support Eat my Lunch in the work they’re doing throughout New Zealand.

This tournament has shown us young New Zealanders performing well at this international level and maybe the one of the lunches provided by ASB Classic fans will help the next big name in New Zealand tennis perform better at school and on court.”

Eat My Lunch founder Lisa King was thrilled with the response from tennis fans over the two weeks of the ASB Classic.

“It’s incredibly humbling to know that everyone wants to contribute and play a part in helping ensure that Kiwi kids don’t go to school hungry. The ASB Classic was a great event, demonstrating the generosity of New Zealanders and we’re extremely grateful to have more lunches to Give as we come into the new school year.”

ASB head of community and sponsorship Mark Graham said giving back to the community was a huge part of ASB’s culture and he was proud of the progress that had been achieved across the two week tournament.

“We know how much ASB Classic supporters enjoy our annual Lobbo event, and we saw that again this year with almost half of the lunches funded across the tournament coming from the two Lobbo days. We’re thrilled to have partnered with Eat My Lunch as this year’s Community Partner and thanks to the generosity of tennis fans across the two weeks, more than 6,000 Kiwi kids will be going to school with a lunch this year.”
