Kiwis in action to kick off men's tournament
New Zealand number one Finn Tearney has fought his way through two rounds of qualifying to clinch a spot in the main draw of the 2017 ASB Classic men’s tournament. It’s the first time a kiwi has pulled off the feat in almost a decade.
The result means there are now three New Zealand men in the main draw of singles – Artem Sitak, Michael Venus and Tearney. Sitak was awarded a wildcard after he won the Pascoes New Zealand Championships in December, while Venus was awarded a wildcard by Tournament Director Karl Budge on Saturday.
Tearney is scheduled to play in Monday’s day session with Venus scheduled as the first match in the night session.
