Kiwi Statham and Norrie given Wildcards
Kiwi Rubin Statham will be flying the New Zealand flag in the main draw of the ASB Classic after being given a wild card.
Statham turned pro in 2004, the 31-year old has been a constant member of New Zealand’s Davis Cup team and can’t wait to get another opportunity to play in the main draw of his home tournament.
Statham has drawn next gen star Hyeon Chung in the first round.
Cameron Norrie has also been given a wildcard to the main draw of the ASB Classic after returning to Auckland in career best form.
Ex pat Kiwi Norrie, who now resides in the UK, produced his best season on Tour in 2018, reaching 66 in the world in August. Norrie reached two ATP quarter-finals (Shenzhen, Eastbourne) and three ATP semi-finals (Los Cabos, Atlanta and Lyon). The 23-year old who only turned pro last year, beat his first top ten player this year as well, taking down world number ten John Isner in Lyon.
Norrie will play Frenchman Benoit Paire.
The tournament can also confirm Tomas Berdych has withdrawn from the event.
