Serbian Drawcard Ana Ivanovic ready for a strong 2014 season
Former world no.1 and Grand Slam champion Ana Ivanovic is sure to be crowd favourite in tomorrow's doubles on Centre Court, and the 26-year-old Serbian is thrilled to start her season at the ASB Classic.
“I’m really excited about the opportunity to play the event, and I am looking forward to playing on a very cosy Centre Court.”
“It's the first time I've come to Auckland and I've heard many nice things about the event."
Tournament Drawcard Ana Ivanovic, who has won 11 WTA Singles titles, was in good form in 2013 and comes to Auckland as the second seed.
Despite enduring a career slump after her breakthrough Grand Slam Victory at Roland Garros in 2008, Ana currently sits at world number 16, and is ready to break back into the Top 10.
"I do feel I'm a more complete player than I was. I feel I've improved a lot of areas of my game.”
"I've been working a lot on my volleys and serve and approach, as well as little things around my forehand and backhand," she said. "I'm just trying to improve, obviously, and to get my game to a higher level. I feel like I did a lot of that in the off season”
Known for her aggressive play and dominating forehand, Ana Ivanovic will be a formidable contender. During a media conference at the Auckland Museum on Saturday, Venus Williams praised Ana Ivanovic’s playing style saying “Ana is amazing and she hits the ball, so hard, she’s competitive, athletic and has the experience of being a champion.”
