Top seed to face youngest player
This year’s top seed Roberta Vinci (Italy) joins the ASB Classic after a massive year which saw her achieve a career-high ranking of world number 11, take home two WTA Singles titles, and reach the Quarter Finals of the US open, as well as the third round of the Australian Open, where she also won the Grand Slam Doubles title with her fellow compatriot, Sara Errani.
In one of the most interesting pairings of the tournament, Roberta will meet 16-year-old, Ana Konjuh in her first match. A double junior Grand Slam champion, Konjuh is one of the brightest stars in world tennis, and today’s match will certainly be one to watch.
Vinci will no doubt be hoping to ring in the New Year with a first round win.
Tickets are still available for this evening’s session at the main gate.
