Trans-Tasman duo defeats local favourite
New Zealand number one, Marina Erakovic had her 2014 ASB Classic debut last night, hitting the court with defending champion, Cara Black (ZIM), to take on trans-Tasman duo Abigail Guthrie (NZL) and Sacha Jones (AUS).
But despite the best efforts of the Erakovic/Black combo, they were unable to defeat wildcard pairing, Guthriel/Jones, who staged a surprise comeback to win 3-6, 6-4, 13-11. After a slow beginning, Guthriel and Jones took the second set-but the battle wasn't over, with kiwi hopeful Marina Erakovic and defending doubles champion, Cara Black, taking them to a 13-11 tie-break.
NZ tennis fans will be hoping Erakovic can put this behind her, as she heads into her first singles match against Lauren Davis of the the USA, today.
